Solberg Manufacturing has spent more than five decades engineering filtration, separation and silencing systems that protect industrial equipment such as vacuum pumps, compressors and turbomachinery. Its products also reach demanding sectors including lithium battery production, biogas, plastic extrusion and marine applications. By the mid 2020s, however, the digital storefront that represented this engineering depth had fallen behind the business it served.
The company replaced its Kentico-based site with Shopify Plus, using native B2B features, Managed Markets and a carefully planned SEO-first migration. Measured over September 2025 to February 2026, roughly six months after launch, Solberg reported a 15.2% year-over-year increase in web revenue, a 13.0% rise in online orders and a 6.9% lift in average order value. This story looks at how a technical manufacturer with more than 3,600 products moved platforms without sacrificing the search visibility it had built over many years.
About Solberg Manufacturing
Founded in 1968, Solberg designs and manufactures inlet filters, filter silencers, industrial silencers, vacuum process filters, liquid separators, oil mist eliminators and replacement elements. The company operates more than 20 facilities across Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas and serves customers in 11 languages. Its catalog of 3,600+ products is highly technical, with complex relationships between parts and specifications that buyers need to see in both metric and imperial units.
The Challenge
The legacy Kentico platform had become an obstacle on several fronts. Content was scattered: more than 8,700 assets, including products, blog posts, case studies and pages, lived in multiple storage locations, with product imagery split between Kentico and SharePoint. Every change to the look, structure or behaviour of the site required a developer, which slowed marketing and product teams who wanted to respond quickly to customer needs.
Commercially, the experience was also holding Solberg back. Checkout involved several steps that created friction, analytics offered limited insight into what was working, and B2B customers still placed orders by phone and email. At the same time, leadership knew that a full replatform carried real risk. Years of accumulated organic search authority could be lost if URLs, content and product data were not mapped precisely.
- 8,700+ products, pages and assets fragmented across multiple storage locations
- Developer dependency for even routine site changes
- Multi-step checkout and limited, hard-to-use analytics
- B2B customers ordering through phone and email rather than self-service
- High risk of losing organic search equity during migration
The Solution
Solberg chose Shopify Plus as the foundation for a modern, global commerce experience, working with an implementation partner on the migration and build. The project combined a large-scale data migration, a rebuilt catalog architecture, native B2B ordering and multi-language localisation, all governed by a strict plan to protect search rankings.
Structured data migration
More than 8,700 objects were exported from Kentico, mapped and migrated, including 3,600+ products complete with metadata, specifications and taxonomy. Product images previously held in Kentico and SharePoint were moved onto the Shopify CDN, giving the company a single, consistent source for content and media.
Custom technical catalog
A new hierarchical catalog structure was designed to manage complex relationships between parts. Product attributes display in both metric and imperial units, filtering was enhanced, and regional logic ensures buyers in different markets see relevant information. Custom product detail pages present technical specifications, 2D and 3D renderings and unit conversion tools.
Native Shopify B2B portal
Shopify's built-in B2B capabilities give business customers a self-service portal for digital ordering, with account-based personalisation and full visibility of web order history. Solberg piloted the portal with two customers in early 2026, with broader rollout underway.
SEO-first redirects and performance
Every legacy Kentico URL was redirected to its Shopify equivalent. At launch the new site scored 92/100 for Lighthouse SEO, 96/100 for accessibility and 96/100 for best practices, and it passed all Core Web Vitals metrics.
Global reach with Managed Markets
Shopify Managed Markets and localisation support allow Solberg to deliver experiences in 11 languages, while Shopify Search & Discovery helps buyers find the right part within a large, specification-heavy catalog.
Implementation Journey
The migration was planned around risk reduction. Rather than rebuilding content from scratch, the team exported and mapped existing records so that products kept their specifications and taxonomy, and every old URL received a matching redirect before launch. Media was consolidated onto Shopify's CDN at the same time, removing the split between Kentico and SharePoint. Performance and accessibility were validated at go-live, with desktop GTmetrix and PageSpeed scores of 88 or higher. After launch, Solberg moved on to B2B, starting with a two-customer pilot in early 2026 so that ordering workflows could be refined before a wider rollout.
The Results
The results suggest that a careful replatform can grow revenue rather than merely preserve it. In the six months from September 2025 to February 2026, web revenue grew 15.2% compared with the same period a year earlier. Online order volume rose 13.0% and average order value increased 6.9%. Because the site launched with strong technical scores and complete redirects, Solberg protected the organic visibility it had worried about losing. Internally, teams can now adjust the storefront without waiting on developers, and buyers can explore a complex catalog with filters, renderings and unit conversions that match how engineers actually specify parts.
- 15.2% year-over-year growth in web revenue (September 2025 to February 2026)
- 13.0% year-over-year increase in online order volume
- 6.9% increase in average order value after launch
- Lighthouse scores at launch: 92 SEO, 96 accessibility, 96 best practices
- 8,700+ objects, including 3,600+ products, migrated with every legacy URL redirected
- B2B self-service portal piloted with two customers in early 2026
Key Takeaways for Growing Businesses
Treat SEO as a migration requirement
For established manufacturers, organic search is often a major source of qualified demand. Solberg's experience shows the value of mapping every URL and preserving product data before launch, rather than trying to recover rankings afterwards.
Design the catalog around how buyers specify
Technical buyers think in specifications, units and compatibility. Investing in catalog structure, filters and rich product pages can matter as much as visual design when the products are engineered components.
Pilot B2B before scaling it
Launching B2B with a small group of customers lets a manufacturer test pricing, ordering and account workflows with real users, then expand with confidence once the process is proven.
