Odoo Pricing in Australia 2026: Custom Plan Rise, Light Users and How to Cut Costs
Odoo pricing in Australia changed on 24 September 2026, the same day Odoo 20 launched. The Custom plan list price rose to A$80 per user per month, about 23% higher for new clients, while the Standard plan stayed at A$43. Odoo also introduced a new Light User tier at A$12.90 per user per month and changed how employee records are counted.
For Australian businesses, the headline increase is only part of the story. The new Light User rules can either cut your bill or quietly add to it, depending on how your users and employee records are set up. This guide explains the new rate card, who is affected, and five practical ways to keep your Odoo licence costs under control.
What are the new Odoo prices in Australia?
The figures below come from Australian Odoo partner Willdooit and pricing tracker OEC.sh. Prices are in AUD, per user per month on annual billing, and exclude GST.
Plan | List price | Annual per user | What it includes |
|---|---|---|---|
One App Free | A$0 | A$0 | One app and its dependencies, unlimited users |
Standard | A$43.00 | A$516 | All apps, hosted on Odoo Online only |
Custom | A$80.00 | A$960 | All apps plus Odoo Studio, Odoo.sh or on premise hosting, multi company, external API and agentic AI tools |
Light User (new) | A$12.90 | A$154.80 | Limited access for operational tasks |
New customers can get an introductory discount on users in their first order for the first 12 months. Odoo Community, the open source edition, is still free but does not include Enterprise apps.
Who is affected by the Custom plan increase?
Odoo cites global inflation, four years without a base price change and the new agentic AI features bundled into Custom. How much you feel the change depends on your situation:
- New customers pay the new list price after any first year discount.
- Existing customers see changes at renewal. Willdooit reports that if your previous charges were below the current list price, renewal increases are capped at 7% per year of the term under the Enterprise Subscription Agreement.
- New users added mid term are charged the full list price from the day they are added. The cap does not apply to them.
- Standard plan customers see no change to their per user price.
In practice, a business renewing on the Custom plan may take several years to reach full list price, but any growth in headcount is billed at A$960 per user per year straight away.
The Light User tier: savings and a hidden cost
The Light User tier is designed for staff who only need simple operational access. According to Willdooit, it suits tasks such as:
- Barcode scanning in the warehouse
- Field service worksheets and timesheets
- Point of Sale sessions
- Leave requests and expense claims
- Reading Knowledge articles
Light Users cannot access Sales, Purchase, Projects or Accounting, and cannot create products or manage inventory. Classification is based on access rights, so a single right outside the Light User scope turns that person back into a full user.
There is also a cost many businesses will miss. Any active record in the Employees app that is not linked to a user login now counts as a Light User. Before this change, only staff with login credentials were billable. If you run payroll, rosters or leave in Odoo for staff who never log in, those records now add A$154.80 each per year.
Do not solve this by archiving current employees. Active records support payroll and Single Touch Payroll reporting, which matters even more now that Payday Super requires super with every pay run. Instead, consider giving those staff a Light User login so they can manage their own leave, expenses and attendance. You are paying for the record either way.
A worked example: a 25 person distributor
Here is an illustrative example using list prices on the Custom plan. Consider a wholesale distributor with 8 office staff using Sales, Purchase and Accounting, 5 warehouse staff who only scan stock, and 12 employees in Odoo for payroll who never log in.
Scenario | Full users | Light Users | Annual licence cost (ex GST) |
|---|---|---|---|
Everyone who logs in is a full user | 13 | 12 | A$14,337.60 |
Warehouse staff moved to Light User | 8 | 17 | A$10,311.60 |
Reclassifying five warehouse scanners saves A$4,026 a year in this example, about 28%. Your own numbers will differ, and hosting, apps and implementation are extra.
Five ways to control Odoo licence costs in 2026
- Check your renewal date and agreement. Confirm whether your contract includes the 7% per year cap and how a one year or multi year term changes the step at renewal.
- Audit the Employees app. Find active employee records with no linked user and decide whether to give them Light User access or archive genuine leavers.
- Map access rights to roles. List every user, the apps they actually use and their access rights. Remove rights they do not need so eligible staff qualify as Light Users.
- Test before you reclassify. Have warehouse, field and POS staff run their daily tasks on a Light User profile in a staging database before switching production.
- Question whether you need Custom. If you do not use Odoo Studio, custom code on Odoo.sh, the external API or multiple companies, the Standard plan at A$43 may be enough. If you do need integrations with tools such as Shopify, payroll providers or a 3PL, Custom is usually unavoidable, and the extra cost should be weighed against the manual work those integrations remove.
Budget for more than licences
Licences are usually the smaller part of total Odoo cost. Odoo.sh hosting adds workers, storage and staging environments, and OEC.sh estimates around US$100 a month in hosting for a 10 user setup before licences. Implementation, data migration, training and ongoing support often cost more than the first year of subscriptions. If you are planning an upgrade, see our guide to Odoo 20 in Australia and upgrade timing so you can align licence, hosting and project budgets.
The bottom line
The 2026 Odoo price change makes the Custom plan more expensive, but the new Light User tier gives Australian businesses a real lever to reduce costs, as long as user roles and employee records are managed carefully. The businesses that save the most will audit their users before renewal rather than after the invoice arrives.
Prices and plan rules can change, and some details here come from Odoo partners and third party trackers, so confirm current figures with Odoo or your partner before budgeting.
