Shopify Payments Hong Kong 2026: FPS, AlipayHK and Octopus Explained

By Editorial Team/October 13, 2026

Shopify Payments Hong Kong supports more than many merchants realise. As of October 2026, Shopify's Hong Kong payment methods page lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay, Alipay, WeChat Pay and even USDC stablecoin payments.

What it does not list is just as important. FPS, AlipayHK, PayMe and Octopus, the methods Hong Kong shoppers use every day, are not native to Shopify Payments. To offer them, you need a second, licensed gateway.

Getting this mix right affects conversion and costs. Pick the wrong primary gateway and Shopify adds a transaction fee of up to 2% on top of processing. This guide explains what is built in, what is not, and how to design a payment stack that suits a Hong Kong business.

What does Shopify Payments support in Hong Kong today?

Shopify Payments is available to Hong Kong SAR merchants with a Hong Kong business. According to Shopify's help centre, the native methods are:

  • Cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay.
  • Accelerated checkouts: Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay.
  • Local payment methods: Alipay and WeChat Pay, available to customers in any country, plus several European methods for overseas buyers.
  • Cryptocurrency: USD Coin (USDC). Hong Kong is the only Asia-Pacific location where Shopify Payments supports it.

UnionPay, Alipay and WeChat Pay are particularly useful for Mainland visitors and cross-border buyers, which matters as Hong Kong brands sell more into the Greater Bay Area.

Which local wallets are missing, and how do you add them?

The gap is local, everyday payment methods:

Two examples show what is available. QFPay's Shopify app, listed since April 2022, supports Alipay, AlipayHK, WeChat Pay, PayMe, UnionPay QuickPass and FPS. Airwallex's Octopus documentation describes Octopus payments in HKD from HK$0.5 to HK$30,000, using a QR code on desktop or a redirect to the Octopus app on mobile, with refunds possible within 180 days. Always confirm with the provider which methods work inside its Shopify integration before you commit.

Why FPS is worth the effort

FPS is no longer just for paying friends. According to the HKMA, FPS registrations grew from about 2 million at the end of 2018 to 13.6 million at the end of 2023. In 2023, FPS handled 1.25 million transactions a day worth HK$9.0 billion daily. Merchant, bill and business payments made up about 50% of turnover, up from under 10% at launch. These are the latest official figures the HKMA has published in that format, so treat them as 2023 data.

What does Shopify charge in Hong Kong?

Shopify's Hong Kong pricing page sets these online card rates for Shopify Payments, each plus HK$2.35 per transaction:

Annual billing lowers the subscription price. American Express, international cards and some local methods are charged at higher rates, between 3.6% and 3.9% plus HK$2.35 depending on the plan.

The hidden cost of the wrong primary gateway

The third-party fee in the last column applies when you use an external gateway instead of Shopify Payments. On the Basic plan, routing all your card sales through another provider adds 2% to every order. That is why most Hong Kong merchants keep Shopify Payments as the primary gateway and add a local provider only for wallets Shopify does not cover. Check the current terms with Shopify for how the fee applies to each additional method.

How do payouts and currencies work?

Shopify's Hong Kong payouts page sets out the rules:

  • The minimum settlement time is 4 business days, and new merchants may wait longer.
  • Payments captured on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are combined into one payout.
  • Payouts in HKD are available on every plan.
  • Payouts in USD, EUR, GBP and JPY are only available on Advanced and Plus, through Multi-Currency Payouts, and carry a fee.
  • Payouts below HK$10 stay pending until the balance grows.

For trading companies that pay suppliers in US dollars or yen, those plan limits can be a deciding factor.

Which payment stack fits your business?

Comparison of payment methods native to Shopify Payments Hong Kong versus methods needing a third-party gateway

Small brands starting out

  • Shopify Payments on Basic or Grow for cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay and WeChat Pay.
  • One local gateway for FPS and PayMe if your customers ask for them.
  • Keep reconciliation simple: one bank account per gateway.

Growing local retailers

  • Shopify Payments as primary, plus a gateway covering AlipayHK, PayMe, FPS and, if your customers use it, Octopus.
  • Review checkout data quarterly and switch off methods nobody uses.
  • Use Shopify POS so in-store and online payments sit in one report.

Cross-border and trading businesses

  • Advanced or Plus for USD and JPY payouts.
  • UnionPay, Alipay and WeChat Pay switched on for Mainland buyers.
  • Connect payouts to your accounting or ERP system so each gateway reconciles automatically.

Is cross-border FPS coming to ecommerce?

Not yet in a merchant checkout sense. The Hong Kong Association of Banks welcomed "Payment Connect", which linked Hong Kong's FPS with the Mainland's Internet Banking Payment System from 22 June 2025. It supports real-time, small-value remittances between residents. HKAB's announcement does not mention merchant payments, so do not plan an ecommerce checkout around it yet.

Action plan for the next 30 days

  1. Confirm Shopify Payments is your primary gateway and check which plan you are on.
  2. Activate Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay if you sell to Mainland visitors or Greater Bay Area customers.
  3. Pick one local gateway for FPS, PayMe, AlipayHK and, if relevant, Octopus. Compare fees, settlement times and its Shopify integration.
  4. Review payout currencies if you pay overseas suppliers.
  5. Set up reconciliation with a separate clearing account for each payment provider.

The bottom line

Shopify Payments Hong Kong is stronger than its reputation, with UnionPay, Alipay, WeChat Pay and USDC built in. But FPS, AlipayHK, PayMe and Octopus still need a partner gateway, and the third-party fee punishes merchants who route everything outside Shopify Payments.

A hybrid stack, with Shopify Payments first and one local provider for wallets, gives Hong Kong shoppers the methods they expect without inflating your costs. Fees and supported methods change, so check the latest details with Shopify and your providers. FAQs

Yes. An offshore ClickFunnels agency can work effectively with Australian businesses when it has clear communication processes, suitable working hour overlap, reliable project management and relevant technical experience. The agency's location is less important than its ability to communicate clearly, meet deadlines and take responsibility for the work.

A ClickFunnels expert is usually suitable for straightforward work such as building a landing page, fixing an existing funnel or making specific changes. An agency is generally a better fit when the project involves funnel strategy, multiple systems, complex integrations, ongoing optimisation or a funnel that plays an important role in generating revenue.

Not necessarily. If the problem is conversion, landing pages or marketing automation, improve those areas first. Consider migration only when your business model has changed enough that your current ecommerce architecture no longer fits.

Yes, especially for a small product range where sales depend on paid traffic, offers, upsells or other funnel tactics. As catalog and operational complexity grow, Shopify usually becomes a better fit.
