Shopify B2B in Australia: Wholesale on Every Plan, What Changes in 2026
Shopify B2B in Australia became far more accessible in 2026. On 2 April 2026, Shopify extended its B2B toolkit, previously reserved for Shopify Plus, to merchants on Basic, Grow and Advanced plans. Australian brands and wholesalers can now run trade accounts, custom price lists and volume pricing alongside their retail store, without moving to an enterprise plan first.
The timing reflects where Shopify sees growth. In Shopify's Q2 2026 results, B2B GMV grew 76% year on year, more than twice the 32% growth in total GMV. Digital Commerce 360's breakdown shows B2B ahead of every other segment it tracked, including Shop Pay (53%) and international GMV (37%).
This article explains what is now available on each plan, where Plus is still needed, and how Australian businesses should approach a wholesale portal on Shopify.
What did Shopify change in April 2026?
According to PYMNTS' report on the announcement, Shopify said that "key pieces of what has been refined on Shopify Plus over nearly four years are now rolling out to all merchants". The features now available on Basic, Grow and Advanced are:
- Company profiles for wholesale buyers, with their own locations and contacts
- Up to three custom catalogs with tailored pricing
- Volume discounts and quantity rules, such as minimums and order increments
Some capabilities remain Plus-only.
Non-Plus vs Plus: which do you need?
B2B capability | Basic, Grow, Advanced | Shopify Plus |
|---|---|---|
Company profiles for trade buyers | Yes | Yes |
Custom catalogs with tailored pricing | Up to 3 | Unlimited |
Volume discounts and quantity rules | Yes | Yes |
Catalogs assigned directly to companies and locations | No | Yes |
Partial payments and deposits | No | Yes |
For many Australian businesses, three catalogs is enough. A typical setup might be one retail-trade price list, one for volume distributors, and one for key accounts. If you negotiate pricing account by account, or need deposits on large orders, Plus is still the better fit.

What else is new for Shopify B2B in 2026?
Shopify also shipped a set of B2B features in its Winter '26 Edition. Shopify's own B2B roundup, published in January 2026, lists ten updates. The most relevant for Australian merchants:
- Payment requests per fulfilment: customers pay as items ship, useful for split or backordered trade orders. This was in early access at launch.
- Dynamic payment terms and deposits: apps built on Payment Customization Functions can set terms by business rule, for example pay now for small orders and 30-day terms for larger ones.
- Order review rules: orders can be flagged for review based on value, product type or customer attributes, while routine orders process straight away.
- Store credit for B2B: credit attaches to company locations, so any authorised buyer there can use it.
- Pickup in store for B2B: trade customers can collect from your physical locations.
- Sidekick creates companies: describe a new wholesale customer in plain language and Shopify's AI assistant fills in the company record.
One caveat: Pay by ACH, the bank payment method highlighted in the same release, is US-only. Australian merchants need to rely on card payments, invoices with payment terms, or local payment apps.
Why does B2B on Shopify matter for Australian wholesalers?
Many Australian brands sell both to consumers and to retailers, salons, cafes, clinics or trade customers. Too often the wholesale side runs on emailed PDF price lists, phone orders and manual data entry into accounting software. Moving it onto the same Shopify platform as retail brings:
- One product catalog, so stock, images and descriptions stay consistent.
- Self-service reordering for trade customers at any hour.
- Fewer keying errors, because orders arrive structured instead of by email.
- Better data on what each account buys and how often.
Where does the ERP fit?
B2B orders usually need more back-office logic than retail: credit limits, payment terms, account-specific pricing, and invoicing. Shopify's roundup also highlighted new prebuilt ERP integrations, including Fulfil, Patchworks (for NetSuite and Brightpearl) and OmnifiCX by Kensium (for Sage, Acumatica and others), plus EDI order workflows through SPS Commerce and Crstl. Australian retailers are already treating integration as the core of any Shopify project: Forever New's 2026 move to Shopify covered ERP and warehouse management integrations across four markets, as Ecommerce News Australia reported.
For Australian businesses, invoicing has an extra dimension. More than 400,000 businesses are now on the Peppol e-invoicing network, according to the ATO's eInvoicing page, and Commonwealth agencies are being pushed to receive and send more e-invoices in 2026. If your trade customers include government or larger businesses, plan how Shopify orders become compliant invoices in your accounting or ERP system.
How should you launch a wholesale portal on Shopify?
Step 1: Segment your trade customers
Group customers by pricing and terms. If they fit into three groups, a non-Plus plan may be enough. If every account has unique pricing, budget for Plus.
Step 2: Set rules before you build
Decide minimum order values, quantity increments, payment terms and which orders need manual review. Configure these in Shopify rather than handling them by email.
Step 3: Connect the back office
Decide where credit limits, invoices and stock live. Connect Shopify to your accounting system or ERP so B2B orders flow through without re-keying.
Step 4: Separate the experience
Give trade buyers a clear login, their own pricing and fast reorder tools. Keep retail shoppers from seeing wholesale prices.
Step 5: Onboard in waves
Start with a handful of loyal accounts, fix friction, then invite the rest.

What mistakes should you avoid?
Australian wholesalers moving trade ordering onto Shopify tend to trip over the same few issues:
- Copying every legacy price list. Years of one-off deals can create dozens of price lists. Consolidate before you build, or you will be pushed onto Plus for complexity you do not need.
- Forgetting GST display. Trade buyers usually think in ex-GST prices, retail shoppers in GST-inclusive prices. Make sure catalogs, quotes and invoices show the right figures for each audience.
- Leaving credit control outside the system. If credit limits live in someone's head or a spreadsheet, overdue accounts keep ordering. Connect terms and limits to your accounting or ERP.
- Launching without sales team buy-in. Reps who fear losing accounts can quietly keep taking orders by email. Involve them early and credit them for portal orders.
The bottom line
Shopify's April 2026 change means Shopify B2B in Australia is no longer just for enterprise budgets. Company profiles, custom catalogs and volume pricing are now available on every paid plan. Plus remains the right choice for account-level pricing, direct catalog assignment and deposits. With B2B GMV growing 76% in Q2 2026, Shopify is clearly investing in this area.
The real value comes from connecting the storefront to the rest of the business: payment terms, credit, invoicing and stock. If you want to bring wholesale onto Shopify and connect it with your ERP, ONEXT's Shopify development team can help as a trusted delivery partner.
