Odoo Hong Kong Localisation in 2026: FPS QR, QFPay POS and AI Agents
Odoo Hong Kong localization has quietly become one of the more practical in Asia. Odoo 19, released on 18 September 2025 as a long-term support version, gives Hong Kong businesses a dedicated chart of accounts and reports, FPS QR codes on invoices, and a QFPay payment terminal that Odoo's documentation describes as exclusively for Hong Kong.
Since then, the May 2026 Odoo 19.3 update made AI agents able to create and update records, and Odoo partners report that Odoo 20 launched on 24 September 2026 with deeper AI automation.
For Hong Kong SMEs, the result is that accounting, invoicing, point of sale and payroll can now run on one platform using local payment rails, without the custom development that used to be needed. This guide explains what is included and where a partner still adds value.
What does "Hong Kong localisation" include in Odoo 19?
Odoo's Hong Kong fiscal localisation documentation lists two modules installed automatically:
Module | Technical name | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Hong Kong - Accounting | l10n_hk | Chart of accounts and base localisation |
Hong Kong - Accounting Reports | l10n_hk_reports | Hong Kong-specific accounting reports |
Hong Kong payroll is a separate set of modules, covering MPF, eMPF reporting and IR56 forms, which we cover in a separate article. Odoo also supports multiple currencies, so HKD, RMB and USD can be handled in one company.
Compared with many markets, the Hong Kong accounting localisation is light. Most of the practical value sits in local payments and payroll.
How do FPS QR codes on invoices work?
The most useful Hong Kong feature for business-to-business sellers is FPS QR on invoices. According to the source of Odoo's Hong Kong documentation, FPS lets customers pay instantly in Hong Kong dollars or renminbi through online and mobile banking. Setup takes four steps:
- Turn on QR codes under Accounting settings, in the Customer Payments section.
- Add your FPS proxy type and value (for example a mobile number, email or FPS ID) to the company bank account, and tick "Include Reference" so the invoice number is carried in the QR code.
- Fill in the account number and bank on the bank journal.
- On each invoice, choose "EMV Merchant-Presented QR-code" as the payment QR option.
Because the invoice number travels with the payment, matching incoming FPS payments to invoices during bank reconciliation becomes much faster.
Why FPS matters for collections
FPS is now a mainstream business rail. According to the HKMA, registrations reached 13.6 million at the end of 2023, the system handled 1.25 million transactions worth HK$9.0 billion a day in 2023, and merchant, bill and business payments made up about 50% of turnover. These are 2023 HKMA figures, the latest the HKMA has published in this format.

What does QFPay bring to Odoo Point of Sale?
Odoo's 19 release notes state: "A new payment terminal, QFPay, is available for Hong Kong." The QFPay terminal documentation adds that QFPay terminals are exclusively for Hong Kong and do not need an Odoo IoT Box.
For retailers and restaurants, that means the payment terminal talks directly to Odoo POS. The sale amount is sent to the terminal, the payment confirmation comes back automatically, and the payment lands in the right journal. That removes a common source of daily reconciliation errors, where staff key amounts into a separate terminal by hand.
Odoo 19 also added other POS improvements that fit Hong Kong F&B, including one-click payment validation, presets for delivery and pick-up orders, and allergen management for self-ordering.
How have AI features evolved from Odoo 19 to Odoo 20?
Odoo 19 (September 2025)
The release notes list AI agents that learn from your documents, AI fields that fill values automatically, natural-language "Ask AI" search and voice transcription. Accounting gained a simpler bank reconciliation screen, duplicate bill detection and a combined Annual Statements report.
Odoo 19.3 (May 2026)
The Odoo 19.3 release notes describe AI agents that can create and update records, offline editing in the mobile app, automated cross-sell suggestions in eCommerce, and bill payment through a payment initiation interface. Hong Kong payroll also gained rental records, more pay schedules and a structure for casual workers in catering and construction.
Odoo 20 (September 2026, per partner reports)
We could not confirm Odoo 20 details on odoo.com at the time of writing. According to Odoo partner Macopedia, Odoo 20 launched on 24 September 2026 at Odoo Experience in Brussels. Macopedia reports that AI agents can now act inside automated actions, Model Context Protocol (MCP) support lets external AI tools connect to Odoo with the user's access rights, and 13 new industry packages were added. Treat these as partner-reported until you have checked them against Odoo's official release notes.

Where are the gaps, and where does a partner help?
Odoo's Hong Kong localisation covers the core, but most projects still need local work:
- Payment gateways for eCommerce: online wallets such as AlipayHK, PayMe and Octopus need a suitable provider and integration.
- Bank feeds and formats: check how statements from your Hong Kong banks are imported.
- Traditional Chinese documents: invoice, quotation and delivery note layouts usually need adjusting for bilingual output.
- Logistics and marketplaces: at Odoo's February 2025 Hong Kong event, local implementers cited integrations with SF Express and HKTVmall as typical requirements.
- AI governance: decide what AI agents may change before you enable them on live data.
Should you implement Odoo 19 now or wait for Odoo 20?
Situation | Suggested approach |
|---|---|
New implementation starting this quarter | Start on Odoo 19 LTS unless your partner has validated Odoo 20 for Hong Kong |
Already on Odoo 17 or older | Plan an upgrade to a supported version now |
Already on Odoo 19 | Adopt 19.3 features first, then assess Odoo 20 once its Hong Kong modules are confirmed |
Retail or F&B with a separate POS terminal | Evaluate Odoo POS with QFPay |
Action plan
- Turn on FPS QR codes on customer invoices and include the invoice reference.
- Map every payment channel (FPS, cards, wallets, POS terminal) to its own journal.
- Assess QFPay with Odoo POS if you run shops or restaurants.
- Pilot AI agents on low-risk tasks, such as lead capture or data entry, with limited permissions.
- Plan bilingual documents and local integrations as part of the project scope.
The bottom line
Odoo's Hong Kong localisation now covers what most local SMEs need day to day: a local chart of accounts, FPS QR invoices, a Hong Kong-specific POS terminal and comprehensive payroll. Odoo 19 is a solid, long-term supported base, and Odoo 20 adds AI capabilities that partners describe as a major step forward.
The opportunity is to combine those features with local payment, bank and logistics integrations so the system reflects how Hong Kong businesses actually operate. To plan or deliver your Odoo project, ONEXT's ERP and Odoo team can work with you as a trusted implementation partner.
